People!
Your mass protest has changed the political scene of the society within a short time. In the wake of your struggle, the Islamic regime with its suppressive machinery has shown its inability to quash your protests. Its suppressive machinery could not prevent you from taking into the streets in millions. Despite threats and recruitment of its savage forces, everybody witnessed your brave resistance and confrontation against the regime. The truth is that the Islamic regime is not in a position to suppress your protests that are taking shape on a mass scale. An all round attack by the regime will paralyse the regime and cause tension from within. The balance of forces between the regime and people has changed. The presence of different sections of the society, organisation of workers’ strikes and mass protests can completely decommission and paralyse the military machinery and the suppressive apparatus of the regime.
These events, contrary to the picture the regime or its supporters paint, proved once again that the conflicts in Iran do not just have two sides, but three sides. The tension within the regime’s factions is only a reflection of the dire situation, which people’s protests have imposed against the totality of the Islamic Republic. Thus, to survive, these factions are strangling each other. However, people demand the complete overthrow of the regime and not just implementation of reforms. Peoples’ vote in the recent masquerade of a presidential election was not for Mousavi. It was a “NO” verdict to Islam and the Islamic rule. It was against dictatorship, suppression, backward reactionary culture which has been imposed on people, against poverty, hunger, devastation, and against the inequality between women and men. It was a vote for destruction of Islamic regime.
Islamic Republic must go. This is peoples’ verdict. However, the overthrow of the regime is not all and is not the end of the political developments in Iran. The tension between classes and social movements in the society over the kind of system replacing the regime has already begun and will continue until the consolidation of the future state. In the view of WUP, the present movement against the Islamic regime and the overthrow of the state is part of a great social revolution for the establishment of a socialist system in Iran. Peoples’ victory and liberation in the present historical development in Iran depends more than anything else on: 1) the working class, as an independent socialist force, to enter the struggle for political power; 2) the isolation of Nationalist-Islamic opposition currents; 3) the masses of people who have already risen against the regime to see socialism and the socialist republic as a realistic political and social alternative. The materialization of these points is our vital task.
In the current developments in Iran, the WUP is struggling for a socialist victory, freedom, equality, workers’ state and the immediate establishment of the Socialist Republic. WUP is demanding the immediate overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran and confronts any attempt by the forces (in the regime or outside it) that want to preserve the Islamic rule in new forms or reformed. We call upon the working class and people to gather around the banner of worker-communism in the struggle to overthrow the Islamic regime, and establish a free, equal, human society and a better world.
